This lake front accommodation offers guests a unique opportunity to wander through native bush to the sandy shores of the lake or along parts of the Waiau River, an 8 minute walk through the native beech forest to Pearl Harbour the Doubtful Sound Cruise departure point. Close and convenient to a number of national park walks and great New Zealand walks to explore. The circle Manapouri track has a beautiful bird’s eye view of the lake. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Back valley track, Forest Burn and Kepler track. The Kepler Mountains are just north of Manapouri’s imposing Hunter Mountains with its spectacular monument in the foreground to the snow-capped Cathedral Peaks and framed to the south by the majestic Takitimu’s.
Guests are able to interact with these remote waterways on the sheltered Waiau River with row boats, canoes and kayaks. It has a healthy population of trout for the keen fisher people. Or hop aboard one of the modern vessels and cruise to stunning Doubtful Sound or spectacular Milford Sound or be guided through spectacular wilderness and Heritage sites. Still untouched, just as Captain Cook 1st discovered them. Local Cafes and Restaurants only a short walk from Possum Lodge.
