Woodpecker Hill is where the flavours of Asia meet the wood-smoked succulence of American Barbecue. Woodpecker Hill, which opened in 2015, Che wanted to try something completely new – pairing Asian herbs, bastes and sauces with the best of slow-cooked Texan barbecue. The East-meets-West result, which Che calls “Asian Smokehouse Cuisine” was an instant hit, making taste buds soar, and cementing Che’s reputation as one of the most exciting chefs working in New Zealand today.
